Burlesque Courses
Drama Queens Burlesque runs six week burlesque courses and one day workshops in Nottingham for aspiring and novice performers. Our burlesque lessons are not dance classes, but instead use a mixture of practical drama activities, peer discussion and creativity exercises to help you learn to create original act concepts and narratives and engaging, appealing characters as well as teaching you techniques to understand, captivate and most importantly, entertain your audience.
Our classes are small, with no more than 12 students at a time to ensure you get the attention and support you need, and out teacher is both an experienced burlesque performer and a qualified drama teacher. For new dates for burlesque classes and workshops please get in touch via the contact form or drop Emerald Ace a message on Facebook. |
Not just 'Burlesque Dance'
A lot of people talk about 'Burlesque Dance' but really burlesque isn't a dance style at all. It does not have its own canon of steps and movements like ballet, tango or tap. Burlesque often uses dance though, it also borrows a lot of skills from drama, such as characterisation, narrative, clowning and facial and physical expression as well as individual performers bringing their own skill sets such as juggling, song and musical instruments, acrobatics, rollerskating and poetry (to name just a few) to the burlesque stage.
For this reason, thinking of burlesque simply as a dance style discounts all of the amazing possibilities of burlesque as a theatrical form.
